If you’ve never had your home’s air ducts, vents and furnace professionally cleaned, fall and winter are two of the best times to book a cleaning. Many of our first-time clients wonder what to expect from the residential duct cleaning process, so here’s a short breakdown:
How Furnace & Air Duct Cleaning Works
Our truck has high-power vacuums with large hoses that can extend into your HVAC system. We can bring the hoses in through a window or down the basement stairs to reach the furnace and other areas of the house.
It takes a couple of hours to thoroughly clean your furnace and ducts (possibly more if it’s the first time you’ve had them cleaned). The goal is to remove any contaminants such as dust, debris, and allergens from your entire HVAC system, ensuring a clean flow of air each time your furnace or air conditioner turns on.
We also use a few handheld tools known as agitation devices. One of these tools is a whip of sorts, which helps remove any built-up or sticky debris from the sides of your ducts so it can be vacuumed up by the hoses.
Since all of this happens within your vents, and with professional cleaning tools, there won’t be any mess left in your home.
One important note is that a duct cleaner may have to cut a hole in your ductwork in order to properly access the ducts. Although we always try to be as non-invasive as possible, sometimes these holes are necessary. The good news is that we’ve done hundreds of cleanings over the years, so we know how to close that hole up professionally. You’ll never even notice it’s there!

The Top 5 Benefits of Duct & Furnace Cleaning
Another question we receive from first-time clients is, “why should we clean our ducts every few years?” We could go on about this for a long time, but here are the top 5 reasons our clients call us back to clean their ducts:
- Better overall air quality
- Better health, especially for people with immune diseases or allergies, and those with young children or elderly people in their homes
- Better performance of your HVAC equipment, which results in cost savings on your energy bill
- Extended lifespan of your furnace and air conditioner
- Fewer fire hazards in your home (see the dryer vent cleaning option below!)
Above all else, the best result we deliver to every client who receives furnace and duct cleaning is peace of mind! Our clients tell us they feel better knowing that we’ve improved the air quality and safety of their homes.
Dryer Vent Cleaning
During your furnace and duct cleaning, the Clean Air Solutions team can also clean your dryer vents. Although they aren’t part of your home’s heating and cooling system, clogged dryer vents can be a major fire hazard in your home. They can also be a huge power drain for an appliance that already uses so much energy.
It’s important to have your vents vacuumed out with your regular duct cleaning services. This is an easy add-on service that will leave your laundry fresher and your house safer.
